Potter fans reunite! Let’s create some magic as we bring together the best of Potter world and the animal kingdom. Owls, half-horses, dragons, cats, dogs...the list is endless. Without further ado, let’s meet them all.

Crookshanks

Hermione’s beloved cat, Crookshanks is a large ginger cat with a bushy tail (just like Hermione’s hair) and flat, almost Persian like face. Intending to buy an owl at the Magical Menagerie, Hermione gets Crookshanks instead; a cat that nobody wanted. Half Kneazle, Crookshanks is highly intelligent and was probably waiting for an equally intelligent owner, Hermione.

Fang and Fluffy

Hagrid and his fascination for unusual pets led to him having two ‘different’ kind of dogs. One is a three-headed dog, named Fluffy who is remembered for having tried to guard the Philosopher’s Stone; but fell asleep listening to music. The other one is a drool machine, a Neapolitan Mastiff, whom Hagrid lovingly called Fang.

Hedwig

Hagrid gifted this beautiful, snowy, white owl to Harry on his eleventh birthday. Hedwig grows to become one of Harry’s closest companions. Here’s a fun fact: Hedwig was played by seven different owls in the movie series!

Fawkes

Dumbledore’s phoenix, Fawkes, is a highly intelligent bird, responsible for defeating Slytherin’s Basilisk and rescuing Harry and Ginny in The Chamber of Secrets. Upon Dumbledore’s death, Fawkes sang his lament on the school grounds.

Buckbeak

One among Hagrid’s assortment of weird pets is Buckbeak, who almost gets a second life thanks to Hermione’s timeturner. We can’t thank him enough for saving the Godfather, aka Sirius Black.

Trevor

Trevor, Neville Longbottom’s pet toad is notorious for getting lost frequently. Gifted to Neville by his great Uncle Algie upon gaining admission to Hogwarts, Trevor is as lost as Neville! (But on a serious note, we are in love with Neville and his forgetfulness).

Mrs. Norris

Mrs. Norris is the pet cat of Argus Filch (the caretaker at Hogwarts). A scrawny cat, with dust coloured fur and yellow lamp-like eyes, Mrs. Norris alerts Filch whenever she comes across a student wandering around the Hogwarts Castle after dark. Mrs. Norris was the first character to be petrified in The Chamber of Secrets (unfortunately Filch was saved).

Norbet

Hagrid acquires a dragon’s egg from a mysterious stranger at the Three Broomsticks Inn. A few days later, a baby dragon who looks much like a crumpled up little black umbrella pops out of it! Hagrid names his newest pet Norbert and loves him like a mother, even singing him lullabies.

Aragog, Acromantula

Another one of Hagrid’s strange pets, Aragog is a blind spider, the size of a small elephant. He has abnormally large legs and eyes popping out like two tennis balls. Aragog loves eating human flesh and even possesses the ability to communicate with humans. He lived in the Hogwarts forest with his wife Mosag and led a large Acromantula Colony full of his sons and daughters.

Firenze

Professor Ferinze is a centaur (a creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse) and Divination teacher at Hogwarts. He lives in the Forbidden Forest on the edge of the Hogwarts Grounds and protects Harry from Voldemort in The Philosopher’s Stone.
