Army dogs, are our silent heroes, but most of us don’t know much about them. So here are eight facts about combat canines:

  1. Most of  them are bred on special air force bases or brought in from specially selected kennels, for this very specific purpose. No, we can’t tell you from where exactly, as we can’t leak more secrets than this on national security!

  2. And no, they aren’t all German Shepherds, there are quite a few Labradors in the fleet too.

  3. The Army has puppy development specialists, who train these dogs.

  4. At the age of seven months these dogs hit back to the base and attend dog training school.

  5. The dogs that don’t end up working for the army are sent to law enforcement or the transport authority.

  6. Dogs too have ranks in the military, and pension for their retirement facilities.

  7. There are strict security protocols to safeguard these dogs. Yes, our heroes are kept safe.

  8. After their work period is over, they are put up for adoption. They are either sent to law enforcement agencies or to former handlers. The army makes sure they get good homes after they have retired.
