History & Purpose of Indian Dogs
Today we will be talking about the origin and the purpose of Indie Dog breeds by Amrut S. Hiranya, a Professional Dog Trainer & Appointed Advisor for the Police Dog Squad of Karnataka.
History
The Indie Dogs have been there in our world since the times of Ramayan and Mahabharat. But only 12000-15000 years ago they were spotted on the temple sculptures or different mythological structures across the country. The Indies or the dogs we find on the streets today are largely a result of cross-breeding or in-breeding of our native breeds. Being self-bred dogs, they are much better compared to the imported dogs which tend to have a lot of man-mingling in them to serve different purposes. Also, because they are self-bred, they are healthy, strong, and better suited to the climate of the country.
Purpose
The main purpose which these dogs were known for was their hunting prowess, being it for their own food or for the humans. In some regions, they were also used for search and rescue purposes.
