Delhi’s First Canine Training School Set to Open in April

After years of looking for a facility to train your dogs in the best way possible, Delhi gets the first-of-its-kind training school, which is being started by dog trainer and behaviour expert Adnan Khan.

The official launch of Adnan Khan’s K9 School will happen in April 2016 when it will be open to dog lovers across NCR. “The ease with which Cesar Millan works with dogs inspired me at a very early age. Dog behaviour had been an academic interest and dog training a hobby for quite a few years,” says Adnan, who wanted to offer a positive and scientific training environment to all pets and pet parents.

The school has been operating on social media for over a year now and has received great response. Currently, they provide dog walkers/trainers in South Delhi and behaviour consultancy sessions where Adnan personally trains dog parents at their homes. A lot of his clients are Labradors, but there are also many Beagles and Indie dogs.

Adnan plans on introducing the concept of group classes for dogs in North India to promote socialization of pets, a dog gym and a rehabilitation centre for dogs suffering from orthopaedic problems. He adds, “We’re excited to introduce a vertical of police dog training services. We have been doing this in partnership with Police Dog Centre Holland, one of the most reputed in the world's supply of police dogs.”

Adnan puts a lot of emphasis on early training for dogs. “Conditioning the dog about where to eat, sleep, walk play and all the other rules of the house falls under training. Unfortunately, India still has a reactive approach towards training and we only acknowledge the need once the dog starts showing behaviour issues.”

But the trend is changing. Says Rajeshwari Ramachadran, a popular canine behaviourist and trainer based in Bangalore, “Training is a way of communicating effectively with your dog. There is an increasing trend on responsible pet ownership as a result of which people are now moving towards positive and reward based methods to train their dogs.”

Adnan’s appeal to pet parents is that they should be actively involved in the training process. “The main benefits I see for parents is that they gain confidence with their dogs in social settings.”
