The hashtag #JusticeForZorah has taken over social media for quite some time now. The story behind the trending hashtag is of Zorah, a Siberian Husky who was allegedly run over by an SUV driver named Sunil Kumar in Greater Noida. If the sources are to be believed, Zorah was out on her usual morning walk inside the residential complex when she saw an Innova just like her own family and started tugging on her leash and broke free. She ran towards it and stood up on the passenger side with her front legs on the vehicle. Following which, the vehicle slowed down for a bit and then increased the speed. Zorah had kept running alongside the vehicle. During this time, the househelp of Zorah's family is said to have been constantly chasing after Zorah and screaming for the Innova driver to stop the vehicle but the driver had kept varying the speed to instigate Zorah. The vehicle had then taken a sharp turn and ran over Zorah, who bled and died instantly on the spot.
Following the incident, Zorah's family lodged a police complaint and after the investigation,The 30-year-old driver of the SUV was arrested for allegedly running over Zorah. If the accused's side of the story is to be believed, he had come to the complex to drop someone and was merely moving towards the exit when Zorah had apparently started chasing him and in that instance, unfortunately, she came under the vehicle. Sunil Kumar has been arrested under sections 429 (killing or maiming an animal) and 279 (rash driving) of the IPC.
What happened to Zorah is really unfortunate and no dog should meet such a fate. While the true story is yet to be uncovered, our two cents on the matter is that whenever you bring home a pet, it automatically becomes your responsibility to ensure that they stay safe and healthy under all social circumstances. And for people who do not have pets or are not affectionate towards animals, try and at least be considerate towards them. It is understable that you may panic seeing an animal chase after you but even in such circumstances, try and keep your calm before acting too rashly.
