Registration of Pet Dogs Mandatory in Lucknow

Residents of Lucknow who have not yet registered their pet dogs with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will need to register their dogs by the end of August. If the residents fail to do so, they run the risk of their dog being seized by LMC, which will be returned only after paying a fine.

Pet parents can register their dogs in the zonal offices of the LMC or at Lalbagh at the head office of the civic body.

According to LMC officials, an online facility for the registration of pet dogs will also start soon. If no registration has been done, the residents would need to pay the respective fine. After that, a registration certificate will be given, which has to be renewed every year.

LMC chief veterinary officer Arvind Rao said, "We have appointed nodal officers for the registration drive and have received as many as 147 requests for registrations so far." As per LMC records, the civic body last year was able to register about 3,500 dogs. The target this year is to register 4,000 dogs.

The registration fees vary for different breeds as per the officials. While the annual registration fee for big dogs like Doberman or Labrador is Rs 500, for smaller breeds like Pomeranian or Spitz, it is Rs 300. The amount will be Rs 200 per annum for local breeds.
