Another inhuman incident of cruelty on animals has been reported from Mohali where a pregnant canine was thrashed and blinded by three brothers, after she chased and tried to devour their pet hens.

According to sources the canine broke into the property of Makhan Singh, Harmeet Singh and Dassa and attempted to take away their hens. The three chased and caught the dog and hung her from a tree. One of the brothers stabbed her with a machete while the other two held on to her. The men released her after the torture.

With one eye hanging from its socket and the other with not much vision left, the canine was rushed to Balongi from where it was referred to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Hospital) by a local resident. The canine is currently undergoing treatment. We hope and pray for her wellness.

An FIR will be lodged against the three men after the medical examination of the canine has been done but the question is, what punishment is suitable for such humans? No punishment will ever let the canine forget her torment. It’s not a judicial punishment that is enough, its education on animal welfare that is going to uplift our society. The men had such compassion for their pet hens that they took such an extreme measure to save them, why didn’t they feel the same love towards the stray dog?
